The second trip was much better with the temperature in the 80s and the ability to see the mountain terrain surrounding the beach. Jason was the only one who got in the water. It was apparently in the 50s. Robert and I said, "No thank you." Jason loved it saying something (in between chattering teeth and the color returning to his lips) about it being invigorating.... we again said, "no thank you".While Jason swam, Robert and I enjoyed the sand. Or I should say he enjoyed the sand. How many times have I seen my friends' pictures of their children at the beach, playing nicely with their beach shovels and pails, maybe in a sun hat.
Not our Robert. He became an absolute wild man in the sand.

Here he is saying, "What happened?" ...as if he didn't know.

He went for the full experience, including eating sand. And why not?!

People on the beach were actually stopping to watch his transformation. Most of them were laughing giving me that knowing parent look as if to say "been there, glad it's over". There were maybe one or two moms that seemed to be judging. Probably the ones whose cars are vacuumed and always make sure the 4 food groups are well represented.
Oh well, my kid was having a great time and I was scoring a "perfect ten" on the Mom fun scale. Plus, I doubt I could have stopped him.

And the Bar Harbor Daily headlines read
"Sand Monster Storms Sand Beach; Good Clean Fun Swept Away"

"I'm gonna get you, Mommy!!!"
That is hilarious! Robert seems to be very artistic just like his mom-- he wants to engage ALL of his senses in the sand, even taste. Great pics! :)

P.S. The first photo sort of reminds me of Destin '95. I'm glad to hear that Jason got in the water- sounds like he is all ready for a trip to the UP :)
